[Beowulf] Dual Processor & Dual IDE / SATA drives?

The several dual processor Opteron MB's I've looked at do seem to take advantage of the dual memory channels. We've wondered if dual hard drives (either SATA or IDE) are likely to improve performance over single drives. Has anyone attempted to isolate this issue in tests? Is it related to dual processor specific or would a single processor system have the same (advantage / disadvantage) of two over one? Thanks. Richard Fryer Pismo Software
