These 2 statements somehow come into contradiction. The card does not 
sense that the switch is capable of 100Mbit and duplex. Have you tried to 
force media in any way for this mii-tool output ?

Media error, in agreement with the above.

But this makes it similar to other reports seen lately. Can you try to 
turn off any kind of power management that you might be using ? Something 
like passing "acpi=off apm=off" on the kernel command line in the lilo or 
grub config file...
