Question regarding forcing speed/duplex with kernel driver

Hopefully this is the correct forum for this question. I have several
systems with 3com cards in them, running the driver compiled into the
kernel. I would really like to force the speed/duplex to 100 Mbps/Full
Duplex because it's having autonegotiation issues. Unfortunately it's not
immediately apparent to me how to do this. I can see that with the
modular driver I can pass the options to the driver, but, is there a way
I can pass the options to the kernel driver via lilo.conf? If not, is
there a utility that will allow me to set the EEPROM on the board?

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. I have looked at
vortex-diag but I can't seem to get it to *write* anything, although
it does confirm for me that I"m autonegotiated to 100 Mbps/half duplex.
