Thanks for all the ideas.  I've got 2 of these cards at work and 2 at home
sitting in linux boxes that were waiting for me to get a clue.  The video
problem was in a machine at home.  I'll give it another try Friday night. 

On a positive note....  I did get a 3c905b at work to function today by
running the DOS based config program from 3Com and disabling the auto
configs with the BIOS doing the IRQ assignments.  I'm writing this reply
at 100Mb Full duplex from that box on a 2.0.35 kernel. 

So now I know that I think I know what I'm doing.  Maybe.... :-)
