How to determine speed of Ethernet interface

Hi, is there a recommended way to determine what is the current speed
at which a machines Etherenet interface is working to a
switch/hub. FreeBSD provides that information via its ifconfig
command.

This doesn't seem to be available in Linux (at least in 2.2.x)
