Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Systems Programmer / Administrator for the Office of Advanced Research Computing. This position is under the direction of the Director of Advanced Computing Infrastructure (ACI). The Systems Programmer/Administrator provides high level consulting and support for researchers and departments around the University. This position serves as OARC’s primary contact with Internet 2 and the CIC research community, and may act as the Rutgers liaison with national research centers.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
• Provides expertise in specific technologies used by multiple units around the University, such as parallization of code, Hadoop, and high-performance networking.
• Focus on “end to end” network performance, helping users identify appropriate software and hardware, and reviewing actual performance to determine and deal with bottlenecks.
• Maintains contact with researchers around the University, developing recommendations for software that OARC should license, and hardware and service that require support.
• Assesses the needs of research projects, recommending an appropriate mix of departmental, University, national and commercial resources , and helping researchers set up and use those resources.
