Hi all,

I just ran into a strange problem with 2 GNIC II nics installed on the same
server:

The server has been working well for monthes and has been rebooted a few
times (monthly reboot). No configuration changes have been made but this
morning after the reboot, the GNIC MAC adress have changed !!!

bigip1:/etc# more /etc/ethers
194.149.160.13 00:e0:b1:45:da:35
172.31.0.252 00:e0:b1:45:d6:bd

bigip1:/etc# ifconfig -a
hmc0: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,NOTRAILERS,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST>
link type ether 0:e0:b1:45:ff:35 mtu 1500 speed 1000Mbps
        inet 194.149.160.13 netmask 255.255.255.224 broadcast 194.149.160.31
        inet 194.149.160.16 netmask 255.255.255.224 broadcast 194.149.160.31
hmc1: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,NOTRAILERS,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST>
link type ether ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff mtu 1500 speed 1000Mbps
        inet 172.31.0.252 netmask 255.255.0.0 broadcast 172.31.255.255
        inet 172.31.0.254 netmask 255.255.0.0 broadcast 172.31.255.255
lo0: flags=8009<UP,LOOPBACK,MULTICAST>
        link type loop mtu 1536
        inet 127.0.0.1 netmask 255.0.0.0

You can see that one of the codes for HMC0 is wrong: ff instead of da
You can see that the whole mac address for HMC1 is wrong... all broadcast

I don't understand what could have happened... any idea ?

I have already tried to reboot the server (several times) and to shut it
down completely... no luck. I'm wondering if the GNIC EPROMs could have been
erased or something...
I have also checked the driver initialization code, and I didn't see any mac
address argument to the ifconfig command...

I don't understand what could have happened... any idea ?
