Unfortunately, no... I have since also tried 3com's 3c90x driver which
resulted in exactly the same symptoms. I also tried the 3c59x driver
compiled as a module rather than built into the kernel, on the
off-chance that would at least prevent the whole machine hanging, but
to no avail. I've had to convert my file systems to ext3 to speed up
rebooting when I inevitably have to reset the machine if I don't catch
the interface hanging in time!

Curiously enough, when the interface is working, my ping times are
consistently in the 1ms time range. But the moment I send out a large
amount of data, it all hangs. Hmm, I just tried a "ping -f" and that
_didn't_ cause a hang. I'm Cc'ing this to the list in case anyone
recognises this symptom and can provide any more insight (crossing
fingers and hoping...).
