hi,
Just installed a 3Com 3c905CX (the linux kernel says it's a 3c905C in syslog).
The following trouble occurs:
1. card initialization seems fine (syslog-lines bleow)
2. setup with ip-addressing is fine so is the firewall/routing stuff
3. ifconfig seems it up, but there only is a TX-count >0 while the RX-count stays 0, no overruns collitions or errors

The card is connected to your evarge cheap 10base-T hup. Sinc afaik the card is autoswitching (syslog confirms this), it should work fine.
Also the leds on the hub and the card are on.

oh yes, the cable is tested and okay.

Now what can be wrong here?
