Hi,
Maybe you do have parity errors in your system, and that's why your
ifconfig command reports the card's base address at 0xEC00 while
everything else correctly reports it at 0xFC00 (one bit difference).

If "Parity Error Response" bit (PCI command reg bit 6) is on ("1"),
disable it (in the PCI command register of the chip) and see what happens. (
maybe the win95 driver does not turn this bit on, preventing the chip
from reporting these kind of problems).

This has been corrected.
The updated version if tulip-diag.c is now in the usual place.

Note that all of the diagnostic programs were still available in the
source RPMs on the FTP site.

What is the driver detection message?

Have you tried the Tulip driver from

Has anyone run into anything like this?

I installed a Lynksys LNE100TX network card on a Packard Bell Legend 300
running an older Pentium. If I run Windows 95, the card works perfectly.
When I run Red Hat Lynux 7.0 with the netdrivers-3.0-1.src.rpm installed I
get the following errors after the network starts.

eth0: PCI Fatal Bus Error FC66E010
eth0: PCI Fatal Bus Error FC67E014
eth0: PCI Fatal Bus Error FC27E014

According to the Tulip chip documentation, the code is the contents of CSR5
and indicates a parity error. The errors do not appear to have any
correlation to network traffic.

I have included the output of various diagnostics below. I'm not sure why,
but the ifconfig command reports the card's base address a 0xEC00 while
everything else correctly reports it at 0xFC00. I am able to access the
network with this error occurring.

The following is the output of the ifconfig command:

Subject: [tulip] Tulip driver is showing bad performance compared to older
version

Hi,

I got RedHat 7.1 with updated kernel 2.4.9-12
I installed the altered/fixed driver from the file tulip-0.92wax.tar.gz
I got my old image compared to my current one and the new one is lacking in
performance compared to the old one
Did anyone see the same results ?

I timed io procedures from nfs and the net and the old one is about 20%
faster ???@#%#@$

RedHat 7.2

Using what I believe were the newest sources, I could only avoid this
problem in compilation by inserting into CFLAGS a
-include $(LINUX)/include/linux/modversions.h

Then I had a driver that I could install. The card, a Linksys LNE100TX
Version 2.0, gets through DHCP negotiation on about 20% of reboots, and then
seems to work okay. But most of the time it doesn't get through DHCP. On
the other side, dhcp.leases sometimes shows it being granted leases that it
doesn't see, and sometimes it doesn't seem to get that far.

Because I need the machine to be up now, I replaced my LNE100TX Version 2.0
with a D-Link card using the Realtek chip, which works fine.

Donald, if you care about the LNE100TX Version 2.0 and want to look further
into it, I would be happy to send to you for your collection my own
instantiation. It works very reliably under W2K, has for a couple of years
and still does (I checked when I pulled it).

Best regards,
Patrick

Are you using the new source RPM? (netdrivers-3.1-1.src.rpm)

This looks like a module version problem.
The usual source of the problem is pointing to the wrong include files.
