Problems with tulip driver and Linksys 10/100...

I've got a LinkSys "EtherFast" 10/100 PCI NIC that I'd like to get working
under Linux.

Environment:

  Linux 2.2.10 + devfs
  Dell Poweredge 6300

tulip-diag identifies the card as follows:

  p-diag.c:v1.10 4/12/99 Donald Becker (becker@cesdis.gsfc.nasa.gov)
  Index #1: Found a Lite-On 82c168 PNIC adapter at 0xfc00.
  Lite-On 82c168 PNIC chip registers at 0xfc00:

   Port selection is MII, half-duplex.
   Transmit stopped, Receive stopped, half-duplex.
The Rx process state is 'Stopped'.
The Tx process state is 'Stopped'.
    The transmit threshold is 72.
A simplifed EEPROM data table was found.
The EEPROM does not contain transceiver control information.
MII PHY found at address 1, status 0x782d.
   MII PHY #1 transceiver registers:
     3100 782d 0302 d008 01e1 05e1 0005 2001
     0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000
     0000 0001 0000 0000 0000 001b 0000 8062
     0000 04a1 0000 0000 0039 0000 0000 0000.

All attempts to load the tulip driver fail -- the modprobe or insmod
commands just hangs. I haven't seen any errors; I tried a 'modprobe tulip
debug=1', but that didn't seem to get me anything.

If anyone out there can help me get this working I'd appreciate it; this
machine currently has no network connectivity. Thanks!
