A Very quick and easy way to setup Dozens of PCs or nodes...

Hi,

I worked for a company that had 20+ machines of various
OS/Hardware flavours (Solaris, Linux, NT) and needed to be able to
set up any number of machine configurations within a few hours.
We tried Ghost and a couple of others, but we came up against the
compression and configuration issues you've mentioned... in the
end, I wrote a very simple Sockets-based system, with a Linux
boot disk and using dd/gzip and achieved a better result!

If anyone's interested, I could dig out the various bits of code and pass them on.
