Yes, we are using GAs in our image registration problem. We wrote our own
GA code from scratch and it is tightly integrated to our image
registration code. There are serveral GAs libraries exist online that you
might want to grab them and try. The PGAPACK supports MPI but I found
myself in the middle of how to tailor their code to match our use.
The literature for GAs is huge. For parallel GAs you might want to look in
Albert Zomaya's book titled "Parallel and Distributed Computing Handbook"
McGraw-Hill 1996. Look in the chapter title "Parallel Genetic Algorithms"
pp. 1118-1143.
