They have the software. The hardware requires you get suitable hot swap
devices. If you've any doubt about the software set up then get the raid
daemons and install mirrored floppy drives. This is an ideal rebuild
test environment.

With hot bays and even without raid Linux can rescan the scsi bus to
add devices, and you can knock devices out too. See the scsi-howto
