You didn't mention if RPM gave you any error messages, but a common
problem is an out-of-date verison of RPM -- older versions of RPM
react in wierd and unfriendly ways when they are fed an RPM package that
has options and version tags that they cannot parse.. Perhaps getting
a fresh (i.e., newest you can find!) version of RPM might help...
