I also encounter problems zith a 8139C chip on a labtop x86 based and kernel 
2.4.19. In my case module is correctly loaded 8139too, and my interface up 
... but I cannot have any traffic on this interface. It seems to be due to 
linux module caus with windows it's working.
For my desktop PC I've bought a 8139D based ethernet card, and it works 
perfectly with the 8139too module. 

Any other users having  problems with 8139too module (or compiled in kernel) 
and 8139C chipset ??
