rtl8139 hang

Hi,

few days ago I was looking for the last version (v1.05) of the rtl8139
ethernet
driver, thinking that it would have resolved my problem, it didn't.
We work with some Linux systems with this chip and they normally work
fine.
So, I'm also using a Linux system (Pentium II 266 MHz, 64Mb RAM, Kernel
2.0.36)
as a X client of a HP workstation with the command:
X -once -query <HP hostname>
and each time that I move some windows quickly, the ethernet card stops
working. During this hang period, the eth0 error counter increases
quickly
and there are some error messages in the syslog file:

/var/log/syslog:
Mar 10 18:13:59 pcnix kernel: eth0: Transmit timeout, status 0d 0000.
Mar 10 18:14:31 pcnix last message repeated 6 times
Mar 10 18:15:45 pcnix last message repeated 4 times
Mar 10 18:16:00 pcnix kernel: eth0: Transmit timeout, status 0d 0000.
Mar 10 18:17:43 pcnix last message repeated 6 times
Mar 10 18:18:12 pcnix last message repeated 4 times
Mar 10 18:19:12 pcnix kernel: eth0: Transmit timeout, status 0d 0000.
Mar 10 18:20:12 pcnix kernel: eth0: Transmit timeout, status 0d 0000.
Mar 10 18:21:12 pcnix kernel: eth0: Transmit timeout, status 0d 0000.
Mar 10 18:22:12 pcnix kernel: eth0: Transmit timeout, status 0d 0000.
Mar 10 18:23:12 pcnix kernel: eth0: Transmit timeout, status 0d 0000.
Mar 10 18:24:12 pcnix kernel: eth0: Transmit timeout, status 0d 0000.
Mar 10 18:25:12 pcnix kernel: eth0: Transmit timeout, status 0d 0000.
Mar 10 18:26:12 pcnix kernel: eth0: Transmit timeout, status 0d 0000.

The only way to get it working, it's to reboot the system.

After many tries and also a quick attempt with the 2.2.3 kernel, I had
to replace the rtl8139 card with a 3COM ethernet card.

Can anybody help me?
Thank you.
