Unable to get the EtherPower II card to work!

 For some time now I have been trying to get my network card to work
under Linux. I have an SMC EtherPower II 10//100, model name is
"SMC9432BTX" and I running Linux version 2.0.34, Redhat 5.1 (Manhattan).
I am trying with the epic100 driver version "epic100.c:v1.04 8/23/98".

 The problem that I am having is while I have set up the ethernet
interface as well as my hosts and resolv.conf files in /etc , I cannot
"ping" a host that is on the physical network as my host. Trying a
tcpdump on the ether interface gives me the following messages:

[root@krynn /root]# tcpdump
tcpdump: listening on eth0
19:22:08.462467 arp who-has paparuna tell krynn
19:22:30.272467 arp who-has pigeon tell krynn

Also if I look at the /proc/net/arp file I see the following:

[root@krynn /etc]# more /proc/net/arp
IP address HW type Flags HW address Mask
Device
xx.xx.xx.xx     0x1         0x0         00:00:00:00:00:00
*                 eth0
yy.yy.yy.yy      0x1         0x0         00:00:00:00:00:00
*                 eth0

where xx.xx.xx.xx  id paparuna's address and yy.yy.yy.yy is pigeon's
address.

I have tried comparing my Linux configuration to another Linux
installation that is on the same network and works ok but I couldn't
find any differences. At the moment I am quite at a loss on how to
proceed. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanx...
