[eepro100] eepro100 and 10 Mbps LANs

I noticed, that newer eepro100 cards (such as integrated on Intel D815EEA
motherboard, for example) are very unreliable when connected to 10 Mbps
LAN. Sometimes, the machine even locks-up hard (no response to keyboard,
serial console, anything). In other cases, I get a lot of 'eepro100:
cmd_wait for(0xfffffff0) timedout with(0xfffffff0)!' messages, the network
is unresponsive, but 'ifconfig eth0 down/ifconfig eth0 up' brings it back.

I haven't noticed such behaviour when these cards/chips are connected to
100 Mbps LAN (at least not yet).

Here is how the card is detected by the kernel:

eepro100.c:v1.09j-t 9/29/99 Donald Becker http://cesdis.gsfc.nasa.gov/linux/drivers/eepro100.html
eepro100.c: $Revision: 1.20.2.10 $ 2000/05/31 Modified by Andrey V. Savochkin <saw@saw.sw.com.sg> and others
eepro100.c: VA Linux custom, Dragan Stancevic <visitor@valinux.com> 2000/11/15
eth0: Intel PCI EtherExpress Pro100 82562EM, 00:03:47:77:69:06, IRQ 7.
Board assembly 000000-000, Physical connectors present: RJ45
Primary interface chip i82555 PHY #1.
  General self-test: passed.
  Serial sub-system self-test: passed.
  Internal registers self-test: passed.
  ROM checksum self-test: passed (0x04f4518b).

Could another driver resolve the problem?

Thanks, D.
