two eepro cards in debian linux 2.2.13 box

Hello:

I have two eepro100 cards in a linux box (debian) running kernel 2.2.13 on a dell workstation, IDE box.

This computer also has a builtin ethernet which has been disabled in the bios; that is also an Intel card.

I cannot get the two ethernet cards to respond at all. They load fine, whether I compile the driver from 2.2.13 into the kernel or as a module. No conflicts or other problems are apparent.

However, I cannot get any actual networking to occur. :) The "overrun" number increases in the TX queue on ifconfig, but that's about it.

Have I

1) Committed some grievous faq error
2) Been struck down by the gods
3) Found a bug or
4) Destroyed my cards somehow?

Or perhaps is there a newer driver?

Thanks,
