Status of 'Transmit timed out' problem?

Hi,

I did read the mailing list archive about this problem but did not get
the last status. There is a new driver in 2.1.126 but I do not know if
it fixed the problem (for Linus).

I at least have 2.1.126 running on a quad PPro. It is patched to use
__PAGE_OFFSET 0x80000000 to use 2GB of RAM and it often stucks with:

eth0: Transmit timed out: status 7048  0000 at 7296/7312 command 0003a000.
eth0: Trying to restart the transmitter... 

in an endless loop.

I can get it running again by stopping the network, unloading eepro100
module and restarting the network again.

The first time I simply did a 'ifconfig eth0 down; ifconfig eth0 up'
and the network was reachable again but terribly slow. E.g. ping from
another host had response times ~2 seconds (but no losses).

The initialisation message of the eepro100 is:

OEM i82557/i82558 10/100 Ethernet at 0xf400, 00:A0:C9:F0:0A:BF, IRQ 10.
   Board assembly 697680-001, Physical connectors present: RJ45
   Primary interface chip i82555 PHY #1.
   General self-test: passed.
   Serial sub-system self-test: passed.
   Internal registers self-test: passed.
   ROM checksum self-test: passed (0x24c9f043).
   Receiver lock-up workaround activated.
