There's a variant of microfiches which uses photoglass. 
Areas exposed to light produce crystal nuclei. The glass is
heated close to Tg at which stage those nuclei initiate
crystal growth.

Should have lots longer shelf half life than mere microfiches
which are good for about century or more under optimal storage
conditions.
