In fact there not a lot of benefit for Oracle to end MySQL R&D. Monty (Michael Widenius), one of the founders of MySQL AB, left Sun in Feb 2009. He forked MySQL and founded MariaDB. With some portion of the $1B Sun paid for the MySQL acquisition in his pocket, he can grow the company and get many of the existing MySQL customers if Oracle kills of MySQL. http://monty-says.blogspot.com/2009/04/to-be-free-or-not-to-be-free.html Rayson On Mon, Apr 20, 2009 at 4:15 PM, Chris Samuel <csamuel at vpac.org> wrote: >> Except when it comes to RDBMS. > > Allegedly.. > > # MySQL will be an addition to Oracle’s existing suite > # of database products, which already includes Oracle > # Database 11g, TimesTen, Berkeley DB open source > # database, and the open source transactional storage > # engine, InnoDB. > > According to http://www.oracle.com/sun/sun-faq.pdf > > -- > Christopher Samuel - (03) 9925 4751 - Systems Manager > The Victorian Partnership for Advanced Computing > P.O.
