Going that route, running VMware player with a Linux
pre-built Linux appliance can give you the best of both
worlds. You can also do this with VirtualBox if you don't
like VMware.

But MikTeX & something like Vim or GNU emacs is a pretty
good windows-based TeX platform. Or Scientific Workplace
is pretty powerful option if you don't mind spending money.
