I would suggest that if someone is starting out and
interested in LAM-MPI then they try OpenMPI first
as LAM-MPI is now just in maintenance mode with all
development work switched to OpenMPI.

According to the LAM web page the developers are trying
to encourage "all users to try migrating to Open MPI"
