Flex has generally worked out for us.  We have run into problems when some
vendors wrap up the flex startup/shutdown sequence to tightly with their
application.  We would have situations where flex was starting up with the
wrong PATH environment.  Flex would start but not function properly in this
case.

If I had to rate on a scale of one to ten, I'd have to give it 7.5 or 8 as
far as how well it worked out.
