[Beowulf] SMC 8524T jumbo frame problems

The SMC 8524T is an unmanaged switch, so this isn't possible. :-(

"jumbo frame support of up to 9K" - doesn't work even with an MTU of 1501 :-(

By coincidence I've just had to enable jumbo frames on a Dell PowerConnect 
5324 switch, which needs the "port jumbo-frame" setting done in its IOS 
config, and I can confirm that the nodes I want to use work fine with an MTU 
of 9000 on that switch now, just not the SMC. :-(
