I bought one a year ago, so I don't have any modern recommenations,
aside from this: 1U fans are loud. REALLY LOUD. As in I found myself
occasionally yelling up the stairs: HEY MIKE, CAN YOU TURN UP THE RUSH
SO I CAN HEAR IT OVER THIS DAMN GIGABIT SWITCH FAN? ... THANKS!

I wouldn't jump to that conclusion -- gigE silicon vendors are in a
features race.
