Howdy all,
You also have to realize that supercomputers are the point where many
new, novel, and effective technologies are introduced. Eventually it
trickles down to the desktop. RISC architectures, Seymour did that back
in the 70's and before. Large memories, same deal. Pipelining, ditto.
72-wide striping is kinda cool, along with other things that make geeks
drool. Now if only Shuttle would introduce their liquid immersion box
and avoid the heatpipe altogether.... ;-)

I still like the characterization about whether you would want your
Oregon-bound wagon pulled by 8 sturdy oxen, or a thousand chickens.
