Linux memory leak?

[ Regarding incorrect memory usage reported by Linux 'free': ]

Hm, I just observed the same problem with the most recent kernel
2.4.19-pre4 running on a PII/400 box with 384 MB RAM and 768 MB swap... 
Fortunately, running a program which requests & modifies all memory
pages it can get restored the 'free' numbers to normal without reboot.

It seems that this problem is not yet fixed.
