On our 1 GHz PIII machines with Hamachi GNIC-II Gigabit Ethernet cards
we also found out that there is a significant increase in TCP
bandwidth when going from 2.2.x to 2.4.x kernels (I don't remember the
exact numbers though). So kernels _do_ matter too.
