This is not a general problem as far as I know, it only concerns some
kernels (redhat 6.2 stock kernel for example). Actually, the rh-6.2 stock
kernel is the only one I've seen crashing...

It has to do with the intel p3 serial number feature though. My guess is
that the t-bird gets confused since it doesn't have a serial number.
