Hi I just plan to make beowulf with 100M nic with network architecture described on the http://aggregate.org/FNN. But I am in trouble because I found so this is without sense for me :( I was count the prices for architectures prepared from 8/16/24/and greater switches. I was count the total network cost ie : cost of switches, nics, patchcoords and patchpanels. My results say : ONLY 1 switch giving good price ! This is my network prices: 1.Beowulf from 8 port switches a) 8-PC with 1 nic 1 patchpanel 1 switch.............430$ b) 12-pc with 2 nic 2 patchpanels 3 switches ........915$ c) 14-pc with 3 nic 3 patchpanels 5 switches ........1433$ 2.Beowulf from 16 port switches a) 16-pc with 1 nic 1 patchpanel 1 switch ...........893$ b) 24-pc with 2 nic 2 patchpanel 3 switch............2114$ c) 32-pc with 3 nic 4 patchpanel 6 switch............3884$ 3.Beowulf from 24 port switches a) 24-pc with 1 nic 1 patchpanel 1 switch............1348$ b) 36-pc with 2 nic 3 patchpanel 3 switch............3287$ c) 40-pc with 3 nic 4 patchpanel 4 switch............4347$ 4.Beowulf from the 40 port -very expensive HP ProCurve Switch a) 40-pc with 1 nic 2 patchpanel ....................3036$ b) 80-pc with 1 nic 4 patchpanel and 5 expansions for the HP .........5853$ so - I see that the topology is without financial sense !! - Where I made the mistake ? ! and of course The HP ProCurve Switch is excelent ! does anybody use this ? and : Great sorry for my English :)) Miroslaw Gawenda.
