Disk reliability (Was: Node cloning)

I've had the above error come up to me 3 times on different harddisks and I
finally
sent an e-mail to Alan Cox asking for a possible explanation. He kindly
replied that
the drive is probably dieing. Causes he cited were heat and too much
vibration.
