If its any help, The Register has an article on these drives: http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2009/01/27/review_internal_hard_drive_wd_caviar_green_2tb/ Their take on the rotation speed: "...complete with IntelliPower motor control which means that some drives in the product range may have a rotational speed of 5400pm while others may operate at up to 7200rpm. " So who knows - the next long Beowulf thread may be on firmware hacking of Green drives to make them rotate faster - and how various people have found this reduces the reliability/increases the power draw/causes the drive array to take a jump to the left and a step to the right. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
