How to tell when a job is swapping?

Jeff, Another option, by the way, is to issue a ulimit call (say in your PBS epilogue) to limit the process to some reasonable amount of memory, say the real memory on the node divided by the number of processors. The NCSA guys do that on their cluster. If you exceed the limit you silently die, which isn't so great; I think that limiting it in PBS also means you silently die. With such a limit you probably can't actually thrash. -- greg
