I kinda figured it would be pronounced "scald", but I got over it :-) I found a RealAudio reading of "The Funeral of Scyld Scefing in Old English at http://www.kami.demon.co.uk/gesithas/readings/bss_oe.html To my ear, it sounds sorta like "shield". YMMV. --Bob On Tue, Jan 16, 2001 at 07:22:31PM +0000, Martin WHEELER wrote: > Would some kind soul amongst the team who decided on the name Scyld > please advise the list how *they* would prefer it to be pronounced: > > - as in "shield" - or as in "skilled" ? > > Enquiring minds are currently losing sleep over this. > > msw > -- > Martin Wheeler - StarTEXT - Glastonbury - BA6 9PH - England > [1] mwheeler at startext.co.uk http://www.startext.co.uk/ > > > _______________________________________________ > Beowulf mailing list > Beowulf at beowulf.org > http://www.beowulf.org/mailman/listinfo/beowulf
