I had a similar problem. Using MPICH
and LAM with RH 6.2 (I think it was 2.2.14smp).
It didn't "hang" - it would just crash randomly.
I formed a hypothysis that it was somehow related
to NFS, but I could never prove it. I finally
upgraded the kernel to 2.2.16-3smp and everything
works perfectly now. I highly recommend upgrading the
kernel immediately - it would have saved me much
pain had I upgraded it earlier.
Good Luck,
David
