multi path routing

Hello,

I'm planning to connect 8 nodes in the following way, using 2 NICs on
each, on 2 different subnets:

   192.168.x.0

    192.168.y.0

Each subnet is connected to a separate switch. As I understand
the equal cost multipath will put packets to different routes
alternately on the interfaces. For this simple network, that
means that packets to different hosts will be sent by alternate
interfaces. Is this correct? Also even if consecutive packets
are destined to go to the same host they will still go by the
same interface. For all these to happen do I need to have any
routing, or will packets be sent by an alternate interface if
the other one is in use (since it is only on the local network)?
Does the scheduling software need to know all this, if so is there any
which do all this?
