Right now I'm looking at two switches, SMC-EZ1016 and SMC-EZ1024 (latter 24-porter $229 according to Pricewatch). They're advertised as being unmanaged, respective 5.2/6.8 Gbps backplane, 4K MAC table, store-and-forward. I plan to use them for a residential (interbuilding) LAN, mostly because of their (optional) fiber uplink capability. Is there anything good or bad to be said about these? Any suggestions for (unmanaged or managed) switches with GBit fiber uplinks, and according GBit optical switches? (Apart from the HP ones, I mean).
